LG Multi V Error Codes: Full CH Code List and What to Check

An LG Multi V code is a 3- or 4-digit number on the outdoor unit's seven-segment display (and in LGMV). The last digit says which outdoor frame is reporting it (1 = master, 2 = slave 1, 3 = slave 2) and the leading digits are the error number, so 211 is CH21 on the master and 1051 is CH105 on the master. Heat recovery (HR) unit errors are followed by the HR unit number. This list follows the LG MULTI V 5 Outdoor Unit Service Manual (code tables pp.126-135, detailed entries pp.136-208) and, where marked, LG's older Multi V (ARUN series) service manual. It groups each code by subsystem with what to check first and the parts it points to.

How do you read an LG Multi V error code?

Per the Multi V 5 service manual, error codes are 3 or 4 digits. The rightmost digit identifies the outdoor unit frame (1 = master, 2 = slave 1, 3 = slave 2) and the remaining digits are the error number. LG's examples are 211 (Error No. 21 on the master) and 1051 (Error No. 105 on the master). Controllers label the same fault with a CH prefix, so a 213 on the display is CH21 on slave 2. After the error is resolved, the code disappears.

All codes can be viewed on the outdoor unit seven-segment display (SSD) and in LGMV software. An error from an indoor unit zone controller also shows in LGMV, on central controllers and on a BMS. HR unit errors are followed by the HR unit number (HR units 1 to 16 display as C01 to C16). CH230 and CH237 show only at the indoor unit and its wired remote, and CH238 shows there too.

The "Check first" column mixes LG's listed checks with plain practical order; where a number appears, it comes from the LG document named in that section. For where LG prints the tables and why third-party lists disagree, see where to find the LG Multi V error code table.

Indoor unit codes (CH01 to CH11)

Table 68 and the detailed entries in the Multi V 5 manual (pp.126-142). The thermistor values and the drain pump voltage are from LG's older Multi V (ARUN series) service manual, because the Multi V 5 entry pages point to a resistance chart without printing the figures.

Code Meaning Check first Parts it points to
CH01 Indoor unit return air (or optional remote wall) temperature sensor (communications) error Connector at CN-ROOM, then sensor resistance. LG's older manual gives the air sensor as 10 kΩ at 25°C (77°F), flags an error above 100 kΩ (open) or below 100 Ω (short), and treats a reading within ±5% of the chart as normal. If the sensor is right, the indoor PCB is next. LG EBR79004805 Main PCB Assembly – Multi V indoor unit
CH02 Indoor unit inlet pipe temperature sensor (communication) error Connector at CN-PIPE IN (CN-PIPE1 in the older manual). Older manual: pipe sensor 5 kΩ at 25°C (77°F), same open and short limits. Indoor main PCB, as above
CH03 Communication error between zone controller and indoor unit. In the Multi V 5 manual (p.137) the indoor PCB has not received a signal from the zone controller. LG's older manual words it both ways: its code table says the indoor PCB did not receive the wired remote's signal, and its Error 03 flowchart says the remote did not receive the indoor unit's signal. Plug a controller straight into the indoor PCB (CN-REMO). If the error does not return after several minutes, replace the cable. Check connections and cable extensions, and keep the communication cable away from main power wiring. After replacing the indoor PCB, run auto addressing and re-enter the unit address if there is a controller. Indoor main PCB, as above
CH04 Indoor unit drain overflow Drain pan level (float is half-way up the float switch), whether the drain pump runs or is clogged, float switch resistance, PCB output voltage, drain head height and slope. The older manual's flowchart asks whether the drain pump terminal shows 220 V output (older manual flowchart figure). If the float rises above half its height the circuit opens and the unit stops. Drain pump and float switch: LG Parts
CH06 Indoor unit outlet pipe temperature sensor error, or hydro kit liquid-side sensor error Connector at CN-PIPE OUT (CN-PIPE2 in the older manual) and resistance, as for CH02. For a hydro kit, check the liquid-side temperature sensor. Indoor main PCB, as above
CH07 Indoor units not operating in the same mode (heat pump applications only) Compare the operating mode set on each indoor unit on the system. None; a settings issue first
CH09 Indoor unit EEPROM error: EEPROM serial number reads 0 or FFFFFF, MICOM-to-EEPROM communication fault, or damaged EEPROM LG's remedy is to replace the indoor PCB, run auto addressing and enter the central control address. Indoor main PCB, as above
CH10 Indoor BLDC fan motor communication error; feedback signal absent for at least 50 seconds With power off, check the fan motor connection to the PCB, then whether the motor runs normally. If it does, replace the indoor PCB and run auto addressing. LG's entry includes a Hall sensor resistance test at the motor connector. LG EAU64382902 DC Fan Motor, Indoor – Multi V indoor unit
CH11 Multi V 5: hydro kit communication error with the inverter compressor PCB. Older Multi V manual: transmission error between the indoor unit and the outdoor main PCB, raised when the addressing signal does not respond for 3 minutes. Multi V 5: hydro kit communication wiring. Older systems: communication wiring and auto addressing. LG Parts

Outdoor sensor and thermistor codes

These come from Tables 70 to 76 and the detailed entries on pp.160-162, 173 and 190-199 of the Multi V 5 manual. The usual LG sequence is: check the sensor connection on the outdoor PCB, check the thermistor for a short or open, then compare the resistance with LG's chart. The tolerance LG quotes is ±5%. The outdoor unit sensor labels are TH1 (outdoor temperature), TH2 (pipe) and TH3 (discharge pipe).

CH238 Communication error between the outdoor and indoor PCBs, worded the same way as CH237 (no signal for over 3 minutes) The same order as CH237, ending at the outdoor unit communication PCB. Indoor main PCB, as above

What do the Multi V 5 severity levels mean?

LG's service manual (p.125) ranks responses from "notify and keep operating" (Level 4) to "immediate system shutdown" (Level 1). The system starts any non-communication fault at Level 3.

Level What the system does
Level 4 Shows the code and keeps operating. The code stays until the master outdoor unit's microprocessor is reset and the system has run for 130 minutes without the fault returning.
Level 3 Shuts down for 3 minutes, then the master restarts the system automatically. If the fault returns up to nine times in an hour the cycle repeats; a tenth occurrence in the same hour becomes a Level 1 shutdown.
Level 2 Communication errors only, activating after ten failed communication attempts and clearing when communication returns. Time limits: outdoor PCB to outdoor PCB, none; indoor to outdoor unit, 3 minutes; indoor unit to HR unit, 10 seconds; outdoor unit external PCBs, 10 seconds.
Level 1 Many cause an immediate shutdown once the system confirms the fault is real. A manual restart is required and the code cannot clear until the cause is fixed.

What are the FDD E01 to E10 codes?

The Multi V 5 FDD checklist (p.57) lists result codes E01 to E10, which appear on the master outdoor unit's main PCB display during the FDD test run. We could confirm E01 only: the indoor unit combination capacity is above 130% or below 80% of the outdoor unit's rated capacity. That is a different window from the 50% to 130% CH51 uses in normal operation. The page's layout does not let us line up the other nine meanings with their codes, so we do not list them; use the manual's table.

Where do LG's documents conflict, and what is not covered?

  • CH05 across generations. LG's Multi V 5 manual and its older Multi V (ARUN series) manual agree: CH05 is the indoor PCB failing to receive the outdoor unit's signal. If you read a list that words CH05 as the outdoor unit not hearing the indoor unit, that wording matches CH53, which LG defines as the outdoor main PCB being unable to receive the indoor unit's signal.
  • CH65. The Multi V 5 code table (p.131) calls it an inverter heat sink temperature sensor error; the detailed entry (p.173) calls it the outdoor unit liquid pipe (condenser) temperature sensor error and cross-references CH113. LG's older manual lists it as a heat sink temperature sensor error. Check both sensors.
  • CH71. The code table says inverter CT sensor error; the detailed entry (p.175) says outdoor unit converter CT sensor error, with R-T input voltage and the converter PCB as the checks.
  • CH03. Multi V 5 words it as the indoor PCB not receiving the zone controller. LG's older manual is inconsistent: the error table matches that direction, but its Error 03 flowchart describes the remote not receiving the indoor unit's signal.
  • CH34 and CH35. LG's detail pages give 10 consecutive occurrences for CH34 and three for CH35. Lists that give three for both do not match the Multi V 5 entry for CH34.
  • CH193. LG's detail page (p.198) gives above 194°F for the fan PCB heat sink; the code table (p.134) prints above 203°F.
  • CH237 and CH238. LG's entries for both describe the indoor communications PCB receiving no signal from the outdoor communications PCB for over 3 minutes, with nearly identical check lists.
  • Not covered. The Multi V 5 manual's code tables end at CH242. We have no LG definition for codes above CH242, and we left out codes the Multi V 5 tables do not list, such as CH54, CH59 (beyond the HR note under CH204C) and CH76.

Scope: This article covers the error code tables and detailed entries of the LG MULTI V 5 Outdoor Unit Service Manual (pp.125-209), plus the Multi V (ARUN series) service manual where marked. Multi V S, Multi V Water and single-zone or multi-split products use different tables, so confirm the code in the manual for your unit. The parts above are examples listed by live product title, not a fit confirmation for your unit.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the last digit of an LG Multi V error code mean?

It identifies the outdoor unit frame: 1 is the master, 2 is slave 1 and 3 is slave 2, per the LG Multi V 5 service manual. The leading digits are the error number, so 211 is error 21 on the master and 1051 is error 105 on the master.

What is the difference between CH05 and CH53 on an LG Multi V?

CH05 means the indoor unit PCB has not received the outdoor unit PCB's signal for more than 5 minutes. CH53 means the outdoor main PCB cannot receive the indoor unit's signal. Both are indoor-to-outdoor communication errors reported from opposite ends; see LG CH05 and CH53: which board or wire?

Which LG Multi V error codes shut the system down?

Level 1 responses shut the system down and need a manual restart. Level 3 faults shut it down for 3 minutes and then restart it automatically, and become Level 1 on the tenth occurrence in one hour. Level 4 only displays the code and keeps running.

What does CH230 mean on an LG Multi V indoor unit?

It is a refrigerant leak sensor error shown at the indoor unit and its wired remote: the sensor is malfunctioning, or the leak function is enabled with no sensor installed. LG treats a sensor reading under 1.5 V as normal, and says power must be reset to clear the error.
