Where to Find the LG Multi V Error Code Table (and Why Lists Disagree)

LG's Multi V error code tables are in the service manual for your outdoor unit. The Multi V 5 outdoor manual starts its error code section at p.125, and the Multi V S outdoor manual starts at p.87. No single online list covers every LG line, and some do not match LG's documents. Use the manual for your model.

For a code-by-code list with LG's meanings, first checks and parts, see LG Multi V Error Codes: Full CH Code List and What to Check.

Where LG prints the tables

Two LG service manuals cover the Multi V outdoor units most techs ask about. In the Multi V 5 outdoor units service manual, the error code general information starts on p.125, the code tables run from pp.126 to 135 and the detailed code entries run from pp.136 to 208. In the Multi V S outdoor units service manual, the error code section starts on p.87. Page numbers can move between editions, so check the contents page of the manual you have.

We are not reproducing a code table here. A table copied out of context loses the product line, the display type and the edition it belongs to, and that is a common cause of the disagreement between online lists. The manual for your unit is the reference. We point you to the page range so you can go straight to it.

How codes display depends on the product line

On Multi V 5 outdoor units, the manual says codes show on a 7-segment display on the outdoor PCB. On LG inverter air conditioners, LG's support page describes a different method: the LEDs blink out the code. The first LED gives the 1's digit and the second LED gives the 10's digit. In LG's example, the second LED blinks 3 times and then the first LED blinks 5 times, which is code CH53.

That blink method comes from an LG support page for an inverter air conditioner. It is not stated for any specific Multi V controller. Before you count blinks on a VRF board, confirm in the service manual for that board how it displays codes.

CH05 as LG's support page words it

LG's support page says a CH05 error "may take place by abnormal communication between the indoor unit and the outdoor unit." For an error that appears after installation, the page says to check the communication cables. For an error that appears during operation, it says to power-cycle and reset the breaker after 5 minutes.

Treat that with care. The page is for an inverter air conditioner. It is headed CH53 while it describes CH05, so the page itself is inconsistent. Do not assume the meaning, or the fix, is identical on a Multi V system. Confirm CH05 in the Multi V manual for your outdoor unit before you act on it. A power cycle clears the display. It does not correct a communication fault if the cause is still there.

Why online code lists disagree

Online LG code lists are often unsourced, and the ones we reviewed mix product lines and code formats. One third-party list we reviewed gives CH03 as an indoor pipe inlet temperature sensor. LG's own owner's manual for the Art Cool LA180HSV and LA240HSV lists the inlet pipe thermistor as code 2, and the outlet pipe thermistor as code 6. Those are different product lines using different code formats, and that is the point. A list written for one line cannot be applied to another, and a list with no stated source cannot be checked.

The practical rule: take the code meaning from LG's service manual for the exact product line on the job. If a list does not say which product line and edition it came from, do not use it to decide which part to buy.

Safety note for inverter PCB work

A distributor listing for an LG inverter PCB advises waiting 10 to 15 minutes after power-off before touching the board, because of stored capacitor charge. That is a distributor's statement, not an LG procedure, so use the discharge and power-off instructions in LG's service manual for your unit. Never work on an inverter board on the assumption that the unit is discharged because the display is dark. This article gives no board part numbers and no repair costs. Board numbers depend on the model, and LG's parts documentation for your model is the source for them.

How to use the manual

  1. Identify the outdoor unit family. Read the nameplate. Confirm whether you have a Multi V 5, a Multi V S or another line.
  2. Get the matching service manual. Use the manual for that family, in the edition that matches your unit.
  3. Read the code as it is displayed. On a 7-segment display, note every digit shown. Where the display is LED blinks, note the pattern and which LED is which.
  4. Find the code in the table pages. For Multi V 5 outdoor units, start at p.125 and use the tables on pp.126 to 135.
  5. Read the detailed entry. In the Multi V 5 manual the detailed entries are on pp.136 to 208. In the Multi V S manual the error code section starts on p.87.
  6. Record before you reset. Write down the code, the unit, the time and what the unit was doing. Do the checks the entry gives before you clear anything.
  7. Send us the details if a part is involved. Send the model, serial number, code and manual page so we can look at it with you.

Scope: Page ranges apply to the LG Multi V 5 outdoor units service manual and the Multi V S outdoor units service manual, as cited, and can differ in other editions. The blink method and the CH05 wording come from an LG support page written for an inverter air conditioner, not for Multi V. No code table is given here. Other LG product lines, including Art Cool and mini split models, need their own manuals. Listings above are shown by their own titles, and fit comes from your unit's documents.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the LG Multi V error code table?

In the outdoor unit service manual. For Multi V 5, error code information starts on p.125, with tables on pp.126 to 135 and detailed codes on pp.136 to 208. For Multi V S, the error code section starts on p.87.

What does LG CH05 mean?

LG's support page says CH05 "may take place by abnormal communication between the indoor unit and the outdoor unit." That page is for an inverter air conditioner, so confirm the code in your Multi V service manual.

How do LG LED blink codes work?

On LG inverter air conditioners, the first LED shows the 1's digit and the second LED shows the 10's digit. Second LED 3 blinks, then first LED 5 blinks, is CH53. Confirm the method for your board in its manual.

Why do online LG error code lists disagree?

They mix product lines and code formats, and some name no source. LG's Art Cool owner's manual lists the inlet pipe thermistor as code 2, while one third-party list gives CH03 for it. Use LG's manual for your exact model.
