Condair’s EL operation manual (p.64) puts the main electrical contactor, K1, on a five-year replacement interval. Annual maintenance covers the fill valve strainer, the drain cup, fill cup and hoses, and an inspection of the steam/water and electrical installation. Cylinder replacement is separate and demand-based. This checklist applies to the Condair EL series only.
What the EL manual puts on the annual service list
Page 64 of the Condair EL Series Operation Manual (2582954-A) lists the maintenance for the unit. The annual items are:
- Cleaning the fill valve strainer.
- The drain cup, fill cup and hoses.
- Inspecting the steam and water installation.
- Inspecting the electrical installation.
The longer-interval item is the main electrical contactor, K1, which the manual says to replace every five years. The manual writes “contactor(s)”, so some units may carry more than one. Count what is in your unit.
We name the drain cup, fill cup and hoses as the manual names them and do not add our own instructions for each. Follow the manual’s wording for what to do at each point, and treat this list as a checklist of where to look, not a procedure.
How to run the annual service
- Confirm you have an EL. This schedule is from the EL operation manual. Other Condair series have different manuals and different schedules.
- Isolate the unit. Remove power, apply your site’s lockout/tagout procedure, and let the cylinder cool. Close the water supply before you open water-side components.
- Clean the fill valve strainer. This is the first annual item on p.64. Clean it as the manual describes. If the valve assembly itself is damaged, the Condair fill valve assemblies we list are split by capacity range.
- Service the drain cup, fill cup and hoses. Work through the drain cup, the fill cup and the hoses as the manual describes. Replace anything the manual says to replace, and note anything cracked, soft or leaking.
- Inspect the steam and water installation. Look along the steam and water runs for leaks, kinked or damaged hose, loose fittings and signs of weeping.
- Inspect the electrical installation. With power isolated, look for loose, discolored or damaged connections and for damaged wiring. Reseat or repair as your site’s procedures require.
- Check the contactor’s age. If K1 is five years old or more since its last replacement, replace it now. Do not wait for it to fail.
- Restore the unit and log it. Restore power and water, then confirm the status LED shows green or flashing green and no message is active (LED key, EL manual p.14). Record the date of the service and of any contactor replacement.
Why the main contactor is a five-year part
The manual states the interval but does not state the reason, and it does not give an operating-hours figure or a count of switching cycles. We have no source for either, so we do not offer one. What the manual does make clear is that the replacement is time-based. It sits on the maintenance schedule next to annual inspections, so it is planned work rather than a repair that follows a fault.
The practical consequence is that the date matters. If the unit has no record of when K1 was last replaced, assume nothing, and put the contactor on your next service ticket. Our collection does not currently show a K1 contactor as a separate Condair listing. Contact us with the unit’s model and serial number and we will check what can be identified for it.
Keep a service record for each unit
Two dates answer most questions about an EL’s condition: the date of the last annual service and the date K1 was last replaced. Write both on the unit’s service tag or in your maintenance system, so the next technician does not have to guess whether the contactor is five months old or five years old. The same record shows whether the annual items are actually being done every year.
What is not on the annual list
Steam cylinder replacement is not a calendar item on the EL. The control decides by demand and shows a “Cylinder Spent” message; see Condair EL “Cylinder Spent”: what it means and how to clear it. For why we give no hour figure for cylinders, see how long a humidifier steam cylinder lasts.
We also found no interval in our sources for the drain valve or the driver board, so we do not give one. They are listed below because they sit in the same water and control circuits you will have open during the service, not because the manual schedules them.
Parts involved
| Component | Role in this issue | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| Fill valve assembly | The water inlet assembly. Fill valve strainer cleaning is an annual item on p.64. This listing is titled for 5–20 lb/hr; other capacity ranges are listed separately. | 2573515 — Condair Fill Valve Assembly, 5–20 lb/hr |
| Fill cup assembly | The fill cup is on the annual list. The listing title reads 50–200 lb/hr (NH-EL/NHPC/NHTC), so confirm fit for your unit against the nameplate. | 2574142 — Condair Fill Cup Assembly, 50–200 lb/hr (NH-EL/NHPC/NHTC) |
| Drain valve with coil | Part of the drain water path. No interval is given for it in our sources. | 1456000 — Condair 24V Drain Valve with Coil |
| EL driver board kit | The listed EL driver board replacement. No interval is given for it in our sources. | 2584074 — Condair Driver Board Replacement Kit (EL) |
| Main electrical contactor, K1 | The five-year replacement item on p.64. We do not show it as a separate listing, so ask us with your model and serial number. | Condair & Nortec Humidifier Parts |
Scope: This article covers the Condair EL series only, using the EL operation manual 2582954-A, p.64 for the maintenance items and the five-year K1 interval and p.14 for the LED key. Condair RS, GS and other series have their own maintenance schedules and are not covered. The manual does not give a cylinder life in hours, a torque value or a water-chemistry limit in the pages we used, and we do not state any.
Before you order
Confirm your unit’s exact model and serial number from its nameplate before ordering, because the fill valve and fill cup listings are split by capacity range. Search the part number in our site search, browse the Condair & Nortec humidifier parts collection, and use the OEM parts ordering checklist to verify the rest. For anything not listed, use our request a quote page, or contact us at help@totalhvacparts.com to confirm fit.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should the main contactor on a Condair EL be replaced?
Every five years. The EL operation manual (p.64) says to replace the main electrical contactor(s), K1, on that interval. The manual excerpt we used does not give a reason or an operating-hours figure, so plan it by date.
What is included in Condair EL annual maintenance?
Per p.64 of the EL manual: cleaning the fill valve strainer, the drain cup, fill cup and hoses, and inspection of the steam and water installation and of the electrical installation. The main contactor is on a separate five-year interval.
How do I clean the Condair fill valve strainer?
The EL manual lists fill valve strainer cleaning as an annual item (p.64). The procedure steps are not in the excerpt we used, so follow the manual. Isolate power and close the water supply first. Fill valve assemblies are listed here if the valve needs replacing.
Does the EL manual give an hour interval for steam cylinders?
No. EL cylinder replacement is demand-based: the unit shows a “Cylinder Spent” message when the cylinder is scaled up. The manual gives no fixed hours, and neither do we.
