Fan motors and blower motors
Motor replacements can be deceptively complicated. Two motors may share voltage, horsepower, and RPM but differ in frame, shaft, rotation, mounting, amperage, speed control, connector, programming, or application.

Control boards are among the worst parts to match by appearance. Boards that look the same can have different programming, firmware, option configuration, or communication requirements.
Collect: equipment model/serial, OEM service part number, every number on the board label, revision numbers, photos of the board and connectors, and any factory supersession information.

Contactors, relays, and transformers
These components are often more standardized, but the electrical and physical requirements still need to be verified.
Collect: coil or primary/secondary voltage as applicable, number of poles, current or VA ratings, terminal arrangement, mounting, OEM number, and equipment application.
Capacitors
Do not choose a capacitor from physical size or connector location. Use the equipment manufacturer's specified replacement and verify the electrical values shown on the existing component or service information.

Sensors and transducers
Temperature sensors, pressure transducers, humidity sensors, gas sensors, and other inputs can use similar housings while having different output ranges, resistance curves, connectors, or software expectations.
Collect: complete OEM number, sensor manufacturer number, connector/harness details, equipment model/serial, and any range or electrical data shown on the label.
Valves and actuators
For solenoid valves, expansion valves, gas valves, water valves, and actuators, the component's function does not prove interchangeability.
Collect: OEM part number, valve/actuator manufacturer and model, voltage, connection information, flow or pressure data where specified, orientation details where relevant, and the exact equipment application.
Belts, bearings, and other mechanical parts
Mechanical service parts may be easier to identify by size and specification, but OEM equipment information can still prevent mistakes where a unit uses a special arrangement.
Collect: OEM number if available, manufacturer number, dimensions, profile or bearing designation, and unit model/serial.
