S1 on a York part number stands for Source 1, the York/JCI parts brand for York, Coleman and Luxaire. Parts are supplied through authorized York OEM channels. On our listings, an S1 number is often the York number with the dashes removed and S1- in front, so 324-25960-000 appears as S1-32425960000.
What Source 1 is
Source 1 is the York/JCI parts brand for York, Coleman and Luxaire. Parts are supplied through authorized York OEM channels. That is the whole definition we use here. We have not found a York or Johnson Controls document that defines the S1 prefix or explains the numbering, so everything below describes how the numbers appear on our listings, not a rule York has published.
In the store, Source 1 parts are grouped under the York Source 1 (S1) replacement parts collection. It has sub-collections for gas furnace controls, control boards and condenser fan motors, among others, and each S1 listing names its category on the product page.
Why the same number looks different in different places
A number written on an invoice, printed on a part label and shown in a catalog can look like three different numbers. One version has dashes, another has spaces, a third runs the digits together, and a fourth has the S1- prefix. Our listings handle this by carrying the alternate forms on the product page, so try each form in site search. When you compare numbers by eye, strip the spaces, dashes and prefix first. If the digits then match, you are looking at the same number.
How an S1 number maps to a York number
Take the venter fan kit listed as York S1-32425960000 Fan, Venter with Motor and Gasket Kit | OEM Source 1 Part. The listing's "also searched as" line shows the same number in four forms: 324-25960-000, 324 25960 000, 32425960000 and S1-324-25960-000. The York number is 324-25960-000. The S1 form drops the dashes and adds the prefix.
That pattern is common on our listings, but it does not cover everything:
- Some S1 numbers are short numbers with no dashed form. The listing for York S1-6421652 Circuit Board, SSE, 2 Stage, with C | OEM Source 1 Part shows only 6421652 as its alternate.
- Some S1 numbers contain letters. York S1-VR8204M1026 Gas Valve, Natural Gas, 1/2 x 1/2 in. | OEM Source 1 Part is one.
So treat the S1 prefix as a label for the Source 1 catalog, and the number after it as the number to match against the part on the unit.
S1 numbers and York chiller numbers are different catalogs
York chiller parts on our site use a three-group dashed format, such as 031-02479-001 or 025-30889-000, and their titles end in "OEM Chiller Part." Source 1 listings usually end in "OEM Source 1 Part." Some older York listings end differently, so treat the tail of the title as a hint, not a rule. It does not tell you whether a part fits your unit.
If you are working on a York chiller, start in York replacement parts and use the chiller sub-collections. If you are working on a York, Coleman or Luxaire furnace or air handler, start with the S1 hub.
How to look up an S1 number
- Read the number off the failed part. Use the part itself where you can. The nameplate gives the model, and the part gives the number to match.
- Search it in any format. Try it with and without the S1- prefix, and with and without dashes. Listings carry the alternate forms.
- Check the title and category. The title carries the description, such as circuit board, gas valve or condenser fan motor. It should agree with the part in your hand.
- Compare the specifications. Voltage, horsepower, rotation and similar fields appear in the title or on the product page. A fan motor listing, for example, states voltage, HP, RPM and rotation in its title.
- Confirm against the unit. The S1 listings say to confirm by the unit's model and the part number on the failed component. We make no claim about which Coleman or Luxaire models a given part fits.
- Ask when a number does not resolve. Send us the model, the serial number and a photo of the part. Our guide to finding the correct part from the model and serial number covers the nameplate details.
What the prefix does not tell you
The S1 prefix tells you which parts brand the number belongs to. It does not tell you the age of the part, the model it came from, or whether it has been replaced. We do not read meaning into the individual digits either, because no York document we can cite explains them. When the digits matter, the part in your hand and the unit's nameplate are the reference, and a technician or our team can compare them.

Scope: This article explains how S1 numbers appear on our listings. It does not define the S1 prefix beyond Source 1 being the York/JCI parts brand for York, Coleman and Luxaire, and it does not say which Coleman, Luxaire or York models any S1 part fits. Fitment comes from the unit's nameplate and the part number on the failed component. The listings above are examples of what we list.
When the S1 number is not the number you have
Older parts may carry a number that has since been replaced. If a number does not resolve, read our guide to part number supersessions and our guide to cross-referencing a discontinued number. We only state a replacement when the live product page shows it.
