York OptiView Blank or Frozen Panel: Microboard, Display, I/O Board

York's documentation index lists 160.76-M2, a service manual on proactive parts replacement recommendations for YK chillers, and it is the York document to check before you order a board for a blank or frozen OptiView panel. This article gives no diagnostic tree. It names board types, points to York's documents and lists the parts we carry.

What a blank or frozen panel does and does not tell you

Most York OptiView troubleshooting starts from a message. The panel names a shutdown, colors it, and you work from the name. Our guide to York OptiView shutdown messages covers that route. A blank or frozen panel gives you no message to read. The control center is not showing you anything, so you are working from the symptom and from the parts behind the panel instead.

That is why this article stays short on causes. We have not reviewed a York troubleshooting sequence for a blank or frozen panel, and the listings we reviewed that carry the board numbers describe no symptoms or fitment. Any list of likely causes here would be our guess, and a guess is a poor basis for ordering a control board. What we can give you is accurate: the board types involved, the York document that deals with replacing them ahead of failure, and how to order the right one.

York's document on proactive parts replacement

York's documentation index for the YK Mod H chiller lists a service document numbered 160.76-M2 and titled “Service Manual - YORK Chiller Proactive Parts Replacement Recommendations for YK Chillers.” We have the title and the form number. We do not reproduce what the document recommends, because we have not confirmed its contents for any specific model or software version, and a recommendation that applies to one panel generation may not apply to another.

The practical use is simple. If you have an OptiView panel on a YK chiller that is blank, frozen or showing intermittent behavior, read 160.76-M2 before you order anything. By its title it addresses replacing components ahead of failure, so it may already answer whether the board in front of you belongs on that list. If it does, the replacement is a planned job and not a call-out.

The board types in the panel

Three board types are named for OptiView panel replacement in the listings we reviewed, and our listings carry each of them by York part number:

  • Microboard: the control board in the panel. We list a kit titled “Microboard (YK) Kit,” part number 331-03630-601.
  • Display: the panel display. We list a kit titled “Display YM Panel Kit,” part number 331-01771-000.
  • I/O board: the input and output board. We list more than one, including “Control, Board (I/O), YM,” part number 031-01743-002.

The titles are descriptions, not fit statements. Our listings note that control boards, displays and programmed memory are matched to the chiller model and software version, and a part with the right name can still be the wrong one for your unit. That is why the nameplate and the software version matter before the part number does.

What to gather when the panel will not show its own details

A working panel can tell you its software version. A blank one cannot, so collect the identifiers from outside the panel. Start with the chiller nameplate: model, style and serial number. Photograph any labels on the boards you can see once the control center is open and the chiller is locked out, and note anything printed on the existing microboard, display or I/O board. Keep a record of the failure: blank, frozen or intermittent, and what the chiller was doing at the time. Send those to us through the contact page and we can match them against the listing before you order. If the York documents or the old boards give you a part number, search it in site search as well, and compare it with the title on the product page.

Two of the listings above, the microboard and the display, are sold as kits. We do not itemize what a kit includes beyond its title, so read the product page and ask us if you need to know before you order.

Before you replace a board

  1. Describe the symptom exactly. Blank, frozen, partly drawn or intermittent are four different reports. Write down which you have and when it started.
  2. Confirm control power is present at the panel. A panel with no supply looks the same as a failed display. Check the supply and its protection before you suspect a board.
  3. Record setpoints and programmed values if the panel still responds. Replacing a control board can mean the new one starts without your unit's values.
  4. Read York 160.76-M2 and your unit's service document. Find out whether the board is on York's proactive list and what York says to do.
  5. Collect the identifiers. You need the chiller model, style and serial number, and the software version if the panel can show it.
  6. Confirm the part before you order. Match the listing to your nameplate, and ask us if anything in the listing disagrees with your unit.
  7. Handle boards with ESD protection. Lock out and tag out the chiller before you open the control center.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my York OptiView screen blank?

A blank screen gives no message to read, and we have not reviewed a York sequence for it. Confirm control power at the panel first. Then read York's service document and 160.76-M2 before replacing the microboard, display or I/O board.

What is York document 160.76-M2?

York's documentation index for the YK Mod H chiller lists 160.76-M2 as “Service Manual - YORK Chiller Proactive Parts Replacement Recommendations for YK Chillers.” We have not reproduced its contents. Read it for your model and software version.

What is the York OptiView microboard part number?

We list the York 331-03630-601 Microboard (YK) Kit. The title names the YK. Confirm the model, style and software version against your nameplate before ordering.

Should I record setpoints before replacing a York control board?

Yes, if the panel still responds. Our board listings note that some boards must be programmed for the unit they go into. Record setpoints, and send us the model and serial number so we can help confirm the part.

York chillers involve line-voltage and control-circuit electrical components, refrigerant under pressure and rotating equipment, and control boards are sensitive to static discharge. Service should be performed only by qualified personnel, following York's installation and service documentation for your unit and your facility's lockout/tagout procedures.
